I just found a good deal on a tank that was on craigs list. It is a 125 gallon glass tank. There are a couple things wrong with it that I hope wont be a problem. I believe it is an All Glass tank b/c it looks exactly like my 75 All Glass. The first problem is that on one of the edges it looks like the glass was chipped away from it a little bit. The glass is a 1/2" think and it is barely chipped away. Here are 2 pics of it.
This is looking right at it:

This is from the side to see how deep it goes:

The other problem is that the plastic rim is cracked on the top half. It is such a clean cut that I think it was supposed to be like that but am not to sure about that. It is right in the middle of the tank.

The last problem was when I was taking it home, it was sitting at a weird angle in my trunk and the plastic bottom trim ended up cracking directly under the same spot as the top crack.
Here's a pic looking at it from the bottom of the tank:

And here is one from the front:

I am kind of pissed at myself for causing the last one, but oh well. I know you can buy new trim pieces but dont know where or how much they cost. Also, are they hard to replace?

Lastly, here is a pic of the whole tank:

The dimensions are 48" W x 24" D x 25-1/2" H. I brought it home and filled it with water and its been sitting for a few hours now and no problems. Hopefully it wasnt to bad of a purchase for $100. So, do you think it will hold water? I also plan on drilling the back for an overflow and a closed loop.

Cracked trims aside, which are easily replaced...The chiped corner of the tank in the above photos i dont see as a proplem as they are only minor chips and have, in no way, compromised the silicone joint...

Just my opinion

Thanks for replying Niko. I went to the Aqueon website but wasnt able to find any info on getting replacement trim. I am going to keep water in the tank for a few days and see if there are going to be any links. Thanks again. I couldnt pass up a tank that size for the price.

So far, I'm w/ Niko on this. As long as tha tank is holding water, look for any signs of bowing. If the plastic is going to be an issue, there will be some pronounced, asymmetrical bowing (as opposed to the normal amount of bowing seen in 2' tall tanks w/ 4' spans). The plastic may be reparable w/ some epoxy or other appropriate (strong) glue.

I agree with Niko in that my only concern would be that top support. My thoughts are without it, or it being compromised the way it is that the pressure of the water could/may cause the seams to eventually seperate.

I have a couple of chips like yours in the edge of my tank and it hasn't bothered anything as of yet.

As far as the trim goes every tank I have seen that is 2 foot deep they always seem to have the trim pieced together even with new tanks. The cross brace seems intact so if it is I would not worry about it but that is JMO

If it were me I'd take all the trim off and make new ones from wood or angle Ali ;)

Are these trim pieces siliconed to the tank? I plan on building a stand for this tank and I was going to put a rim around the bottom on the stand for the tank to sit in so you wont be able to see the oak trim b/c the stand is going to be cherry. I plan on using some kind of epoxy to fill in the bottom crack and that should take care of that. I top one seems to be there on purpose but I will probably fill that with an epoxy and build a canopy over it.

I think you have a nice deal there. A little sprucing up and you've got yourself a first class start.
