ok i have a 72" 125 gallon tank, that is my amazon cichlid tank. I'm looking to get into some moderate plants, not hard to grow or needing co2 just light to med light plants.

I am looking at these http://www.catfishlighting.com/body_pclights.htm

2 36" with 96 watts each, with the 6700k bulbs for plants
that is 192 watts at 1.536 watts per gallon. would that be efficient enough? and they are pretty cheap compared to others that i have seen.

any information would be great, thankyou.

check out ahupply.com best reflectors. 2x96 and 2x55 would be plenty for a 125 gal tank.

mgamer youre right, im going to order the two that you advised and build my own encloser with the instructions that they have. could i just build a 72'' encloser and put both of the fixtures in it, oppose to having 2 different sized enclosers?

That is AHSUPPLY.COM. Don't forget the S. If you give them an e-mail with what you are trying to do, they will do the research and suggest what of their products would probably work best for you. They will get back to you quickly with what I think is good advice.

I like the java fern (it's SO sturdy, mine was attached to a rock, so it's very easy to more around since the roots grow around the rock and not into the substrate), Hygrophila polysperma and vallinerias. I have to admit I'm very bad with aquarium plants. I lost many plants I tried to grow in my aquarium over the last two years, but the ones I mentionned are those I planted first and they survived through everything (even beard algae that is a plague in my tank :(). They are very good if you are a beginner. :)

Edit: Just noticed you were not asking about plants, but about lighting... sorry, I'm so lost (let's blame the pain medication I am under since the surgery).

Although depending on the cichlids, plants may or may not last in there. what kind of fish do you have?

I can second the AH Supply kits, they are fantastic.

Good build thread for building custom canopies, I have built 3 with this method, works very well.
