View Full Version : Finally found some nice Live rock with life on it heh
I stopped by the LFS and they just got a shipment in and it was loaded with mushrooms, and all sorts of other interesting life.. But now I'm having some trouble identifying all of it.. Got 2 really big nice peices..
So any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
I also found some yellow patches which don't look like anything but yellow.. I also (while rearranging the rock ) I found what looks like a white fuzzy thing growing on the backside of one of my peices.. It's not soft, but it's not really that hard either.. I'm actually kinda scared to touch it really hehe.. Anyone have an idea what it is.. It looks like the white moss you see on trees from the locusts.. :(

AWESOME find!
Oh THATS frogspawn? lol
Nice thanks a ton!
Any idea what the Yellow stuff is? lol it's not a trick of the light, it's bright yellow.. and its not algae, at least it doesn't feel like it..

perhaps a sponge..?
The yellow looks like sponge to me. If it feels a bit rubbery that is a good indication it is sponge.

If was quite funny.. We all knew the "good live rock" was coming.. and once it did, it was treated like a treasure that Indiana Jones himself had found.. being carried on the shoulders as a prize to be worshiped..
LFS Owner - "The Good live rock has arrived!"
Crowd - "Gasp! Ahhhhh.." <quickly bows down>
LFS Owner - "Now.. Who shall be the first to pick from the sacred cure tank?!"
Customer - "Please let me oh great one!"
LFS Owner - "Freshwater HEATHEN! This is not for your eyes!"
Crowd - "Gasp!"
Oh.. sorry.. A little too much?
But you get the idea :)

Very cool find.. You wouldn't find anything like that around here. Not even if you shipped it in.

Wow, where is your LFS. Rock like that is worth a 2000 mile drive for me! So much dead rock in CT.

Around here they'd be breaking the rocks and selling stuff that noticable.

Yup, I notice private fish stores do that very often. They even inspected my live rock before they placed it in the bag to make sure no snails hitched a ride. Cheapskates!
Usually petco employees are less concerned. I never buy fish from there, but I do buy their coral rocks sometimes. Since the employees aren't real knowledgeable about saltwater they don't recognize what could be a pricey hitchhiker.

Hahaha, whats sad is I could picture that really happening. I would pretend to worship a rock if I was able to get great live rock like that.

I see ......Petco does have some good stuff, I hope to sometime get lucky.
He did do that with one big rock, but I really couldn't blame him, it had 5 colonies of all sorts of corals on it..
Also, the Frogspawn in those pics.. they were in the Coral Bin and not frags :) He had more but I was broke.. I'm going back tommorow but I don't have any hope that they'll have much left :(

Nice score. No way does my LFS get stuff in like that.. They will want $50 for that piece of frogspawn, if not more.
I went back since I got paid today and amazingly they still had some left..
I also took advantage of there buy 2 get 1 free deal and got something else :)
I believe that is an Atomic Green Candy cane (along with a smaller frag of them) A Brain and a few more shrooms.. :) The Candy cane is alot more brilliant then the picture shows however hehe..
The place is called American Aquarium near Allentown PA. They still have some left.. They still have alot with shrooms on and various other cool little things if you live around that area.. :)
The brain is still a little PO'd at being moved so hopefully he'll perk up soon :) And I donno what kind of shroom the first pic is, but it's really nice looking.
I also picked up a few more little rocks that has some polyp colonies.. and various other little things.. can't wait to see if anything comes out..
But I did find some aiptasia tonight.. boiled some water and hit um hard.. i'll do it a few more times, if that doesn't work i'll get more agressive. lol
I did find something odd. little polyps ( I think) that I sware to god look like Daisys. little yellow middle, with 5 clearish "leaves".. I'd show a pic but my camera can't capture something that small yet..

The mushroom looks like a hairy blue, I have one reserved at the moment myself. Beautiful creatures. The brain looks good to me, not that peeved at all.

I have several of those hairy shrooms. They split readily & are stingers.
Actually looking at some of the pictures and some research I think the one shroom is actually a toadstool.. I could be wrong, but it really resembles one..
Doesn't look like a toadstool at all to me.
These are the blue hairy mushrooms I'll be getting one of:

Nice corals all have posted.
My LFS has a tiny piece of rock with one hairy mushroom for $49.99. I am able to pass that up . . . especially after I was told that it came on a bigger piece of branched rock that broke so they decided to sell separate. All mushrooms are the same price, regardless of how many heads.
Grins: that is one beautiful shroom.
It is in his tank at home. He promised me he'd give me one of the three he has this coming month. When I'm there I need to take a photo of the dendro colony he has. You will not believe how gorgeous it is! A show stopper, looks like an oversized sun coral but it is photosynthetic.
