Well not really, but he (dont know for sure if its a he or not, but I will say he anyway) did manage to slightly split her anal fin (if it doesnt heal the same color, I will not be happy). I assume the pleco did it because it was in the flower pot that the dempsey claimed (well she claimed both actually), he must have kicked her out. The plecos dorsal fin looks very ragged now, so he got the worst of it. One of the two will have to go, so that means the pleco has to go, neither deserves to be harrased. Now Im afraid to add any cichlids because I dont want the dempseys fins to get chewed up. I'll have to stick with really mild ones, I wanted a convict but now I dont think I will take the chance. Anyone near new brunswick want a pleco?

Ive never heard of a pleco attacking any fish. Especially a JD.

My pleco is pretty aggressive. But my fish fought back. Now the pleco avoid my aggressive fish. In fact, right now my aggressive fish sought the pleco out...and chased it around the tank.

The dempsey is the more aggressive of the two. Usually the dempsey starts it, and thats probably what happened in the battle where she got a split fin, but I didnt actually see it. Usually if the pleco is just sitting there out in the open the dempsey will flare at it and taunt it.

My convict and GT never once bothered the common pleco I had in with them before they oved into my larger tank. The day I added a bristlenose, both of them were semi-hostile towards it, but it didn't back down and they stopped bothering it after 30 mins or so (I think they'd rather chase each other, more fun).

I dont know why the dempsey has such an attitude toward the pleco. It wasnt that mean with the blue gourami, although I did move the gourami because it was smaller and had no way of defending itself, and the dempsey did split its tail a bit. The plecos fins get almost healed and then the dempsey splits them all up again.

if my cons or jack try to eat his algae wafer, my common usually chases them away...but they bite his *** all the time, so maybe it's just built up anger

It is very much possible. I know of a blue-eyed pleco that killed a full grown male trimac. some species of pleco are extremely territorial. combine that with a good plate of armour.....
