View Full Version : Can I add any more?

As of right now, I consider myself overstocked because of my undersized filter. The current inhabitants are in my signature. But once my new filter comes in, I'll be tempted to add a few more.

I have the tetras swimming all over and the corys scouring the bottom. The remaining ghost shrimp are very well hidden in my driftwood and I only see them once in a while.

I'm thinking of adding a few more tetras, maybe some black widow/skirt tetras or a few more red-eyes.

I'm a little wary of adding more shrimp, as cool as they are. They seem a bit fragile. Are RCS more "durable" or am I better off with adding more ghosts?

Any suggestions?

You are stocked. It's on the heavy side of things as well. I assume you're keeping up with water changes if your fish, shrimp, and snails are doing fine. I'd leave it as is or upgrade to a larger tank. Christmas time is a great time to do that as PetCo and PetSmart offer great deals on aquarium packages.

I have been doing ~50% water changes. I did lose 2 of 5 ghosts when I first got them. They were the larger of the five so I believe they died of stress. On two separate occasions, two of my corys either got sick (and I cured them in less than 24 hours), had indigestion, or were just messing around. They kept floating up and acted like they had swim bladder infections. I isolated them into nets to keep an eye on them, diluted a little bit of salt into my tank, only to find them acting perfectly normal again, like nothing had happened. Tetras have never been ill but they're the hardiest ones in the tank. If there are problems in the tank, I believe most would be solved with the new filter.

Red-eye tetras happen to be one of the few hardy tetras actually.;) Add to them the black skirts, black neons, silver-tipped, serpaes, bleeding hearts, beacons, lemons and Buenos Aires.

I'd leave the current stock as is. :)

Did you buy your Marimo Ball online?

Sigh...I guess I will have to. It's so tempting to add a few more.

I didn't buy it but the previous owner did. I believe he had it mail ordered because he had it for quite some time and said it was kinda expensive to buy it and ship it here from Japan.

i would also leave it as is. bronze corydoras get pretty big, well big for corydoras.

I know it is.. trust me when I say we ALL get tempted sometimes.. but you have to learn to appreciate the moderately stocked tank and the balance it creates, vs. the overstocked tank, and the upkeep you'd have to do just to keep the fish alive, much less healthy.

you'll appreciate your tank's current stock more in the future. :)

The tank sounds pretty full. I would just leave it the way it is.
