When you do a water change are you letting the water run over a plate? Try not to stir up the sand. If you're running your filter rinse out the sponges etc...
When there are no more particles floating around you should be good to go. When you do refills pour the water over something so that it's not making a hole is one spot. Try and distribute the water through-out. Each pic shows an improvement so I'd say you're on your way. GL
I've only used a very light sand covering the bottom for loaches and I didn't like it because I would find that some of the sand would be sucked up at each water change. There are however many posters here who love sand and hopefully they'll be along to assist you.
