Ok, my tank is about 3 weeks into a fishless cycle. I have been checking out different kinds of water filter options to get my make up water as clean as it needs to be for my tank. I have a drinking water filter that has a micron filter, and a carbon block filter. I used it to fill my tank initially. I was doing some testing today and I discovered that my unfiltered faucet water has 0 nitrates, but the water that comes out of my filtered faucet has 10ppm nitrates, I tested them both twice (API liquid test). How can that be, and do I really need to have an RO system. If so, any recommendations? The filter I have now is:

Any input would be appreciated.

The nitrates are coming from the material that is trapped inside the filter and starting to rot I'd assume..

Or maybe a natural product of your filter.. They're really not made for Aquarium use.
