i have a school of 5 glowlights in a 10 gallon with 1 betta.

i have been looking all evening for links to answer my question, and finally just broke down and decided to post.

about how much food should i feed the tetras. i have tropical flake, and dried bloodworms, i also have zucchini in the freezer. i know they'll eat a wide variety, i just worry about overfeeding. then there's also the greedy betta-boy who would love to eat the bloodworms straight out of the container!!! LOL

so any suggestions on how much/often to feed the tetras and avoid the betta eating their food would be appreciated.

Feed the flake to the betta like the others were not there. Then a little on the other side of the tank for the tetras. The betta can only be in one place at once so the tetras will get what they need. Don't worry about it too much because whoever is hungrier will move faster. It will all even out in most cases.

:iagree:

My only other suggestion would be to grind the glowlights' flakes up fine, since they have tiny mouths.

You could feed two small meals a day, however much they may eat in a minute or two.

And like mentioned above feed different foods on each side of the tank. Also be careful with bloodworms as they are really only meant for being a treat.

 I feed my guppies, tetras and danios daily with bloodworms along with flakes. Whats the negative effects with excessive amounts?

To Mr.Gone: I also have the same problem, I usually feed a bunch of flakes, so it some will sink down to get my neon tetras a share.

Bloodworms contain excessive proteins. By feeding them daily, you are putting the fish to risk of getting bloat. This is hard to remedy and should be avoided.
