CO2 and pH?

Ok.. I need to find out the cause of all my recent snail deaths.. CO2 lowers pH, correct? Having too low of a pH is harmful to snails, right? Snails need higher pH to have stronger shells right?

1- how did you introduce the co2 into the tank
2- how long have you been introducing it for
3- did you actually monitor the ph before and after?
4- had an airstone running?

ph does affect snails. I read that a ph in the low 6's will start making pin holes in thier shells and cause growth problems in the shell. I have seen this with the blue mystery snail I had which is now dead, this is what I believe caused his death I also have have other kinds of snails(rams horn and a football shaped kind also ) these I haven't seen any affect on yet. So I think its species specific.

I ran CO2 with the Hagen Natural Plant system.
Introduced it for around.. 2 months?
What do you mean by monitor?
Yes I had an airstone running for an hour a day.

I don't know, but I transfered all my snails into another tank to see what would happen. It seems like they are A LOT more active in my other tank. When they were in the tank with CO2 they would only be active around 4 hours during the day I would not see them the whole day.

Lets see.. Temp was a constant 78 degrees F. The tank has been set up for about 3 months and I introduced the snails about.. 1.5 after set up. I feed them - snails/shrimp crab cuisine pellets and algae wafers 2-3 times a week or less.
