K so i have 3 ?'s --- blue lobster @ walmart for 10.67 tiny. 1"-2"
1. do you think the walmart "named" blue lobster is a actual lobster, b/c walmart makes enough that they actually could be lobsters for that price and size?
2. I bought one lol. it was a resuce mission. and it has a clear fungus? or mold? its kinda hazey and it is on his elbows like of his pinchers. what is it? will it go away when he/she molts?
3. i have a native cray and he seems calm and happy. now the new blue is acclimating (2days) and do i need to know anything about the blue species of cray or lobster. attitude? etc.
i noticed my native cray never ate any live ghost. but my blue ate one right away. i figure he was starving. i.e. 8 babies in 2g and just flake.

It's most likely a Blue Crayfish, not a Blue Lobster. What size is the tank? Crayfish need room and hiding places. Make sure you have a good lid on it as crayfish will climb out and walk 20 feet away sometimes. Crayfish generally eat anything they can catch.

It's DEFINITELY a Blue Crayfish if it is in freshwater. The difference between the two are crayfish are freshwater and lobsters are saltwater.
I noticed them in Walmart in Michigan and considered getting one. Let me know how yours does.

If it's a blue crayfish like we've guessed, just make sure he has a place to hide and he will be okay.
As far as the fungus goes, keep the water quality very clean with water changes. Crayfish are horrendously messy eaters. Invertebrates don't do well with a lot of fish meds, so I'd skip on that. If it's at a joint, it may not come off when he molts as it may be on the inside of his shell. Normally after a molt you can leave the molt in the tank and the crayfish will eat it, but I wouldn't as it may have some kind of infection. I wouldn't leave it in the tank for the next couple of molts.

and update, he molted and i couldnt get to the whole molt. but i dont think it would have made a diff. he still has the clear fuzzy stuff on his joints before his/her claws???????
but it did grow twice in size. yay. not as blue as it was though? but i read that it depends on diet.

Almost always when they aren't labeled "cobalt blue crayfish" or "blue crayfish", and they aren't completely blue, they're the species taht can grow a foot long. That's probably the kind you have. Be careful.

it was labled blue lobster?
see i was hoping it was a big one. i thought since it was a big store chain like; that they would have the buying power and quantity to sell actual lobsters at that price?

you sex them by the swimmerets and the front claw shape right? the round short ones are females and the long skinny claws are males? right?
do you thing a wild female will breed with a blue cray from walmart? do they have to be the same size as one another?
boiled and raw or cooked via boiling?

The wild crays and blue crays are different species so they will probably not breed. The best way to sex your cray is to check out the sex organs.
I found this thread on the petshrimp.com forum helpful for sexing crays.

hi,
here is a link with some info http://www.crayfishworld.com/breeding.htm
its quite easy to tell, on the male the last set of legs you can see his penis 1 on each back leg.
the female, on the 3rd leg from the back you can see opening, 1 on each, although the claws on the female are fatter and the males are thinner.
2 seperate species probably want breed.
mine were the same size to breed, the female kept bullying the male till he was big enough.
i boiled the chicken, not raw

I have learned to never buy fish from Wal-Mart. All of my experiences have taught me that they are not taken care of and often labeled incorrectly. It may be just the one we used to have, and due to public outcry the live fish department was shut down permanently.
As others have said, it is a blue crayfish, not lobster. A healthy one will eat anything it can catch even if the prey is bigger than it.
