Hey all just trying to get some suggestions on what would be a good addition to my community tank. The current inhabitants are 5 red serpae tetras, 5 bleeding heart tetras, 1 opaline gourami, 1 Bolivian ram, 1 Bristlenose Pleco and 1 Clown Pleco. The tank is a 40 Gallon breeder (36x18x18). I was thinking a docile SA Dwarf cichlid like an apisto, or maybe keyholes. Someone else had suggested a Honduran red point. What do ya think? Thanks in advance.

Bolivian rams are cichlids...

i would add another serpae, another bleeding heart tetra, and possibly another bolivian ram, depending on the gener of yours.

When this question cones up I always suggest Laetacara dorsigerus or curviceps.
I think HRP are peaceful for there genus but not a peaceful cichlid, nor a dwarf.

technically keyhole are not dwarf cichlids.

if there was a choice between Mikrogeophagus species..I lean towards the Bolivian(Altispinosa)
they tend to be hardier and may work better with the combinations as Blue(Ramirezii) prefer warmer water and you need to take extra precautions as asian bred seem to have some health issues.

if you can find a LOCAL source for Blue rams..they would make a good choice.

Yeah I understand that keyhole are not dwarfs, I meant them as being docile. The apistos is what I meant for dwarfs. I have the lone Bolivian ram right now, but I want to add another as soon as I can locate one. I'm staying away from the GBR's, They are nice fish but everyone has them. Both the Laetacara dorsigerus and Laetacara curviceps are very nice looking fish, can they coexist with a pair of Bolivians and if so which species would be more compatable and how many could I put in..a single or a pair?

With enough hiding places I think you would be fine with a pair of each.
As for what sp. of Laetacaras-what ever one you want or can find.

I have not kept either of these two but from the reseach I have done they should be fine.

they seem to have a temperament similar to the Keyholes which I have kept with bolivians.

Apistogramma borellis are quite peaceful.
