I need help. Again. :wall: I figured out what main fish I want in my tank , but I need some suggestions on whatelse can go with them. It's a cycled :headbang2:30 gallon long tank. I did a fishless cycle and the tank dimensions are 30.6L" x 18.6H" x 12.5W". I was thinking this for the paradise fish, but I have no idea whatelse are compatible with paradise fish/gouramis:

-3 Female Paradise Gouramis/Fish and 1 male (yes I know 1 male per tank)

are you planning on breeding them?

No, I'm not, but I only heard one male per tank because like bettas they'll kill each other.. I heard that it's best to get at least 3-4 females too.

You just get 1 male paradise fish and use it as your centerpiece. I would think that their compatibility would be about the same as a Betta with a few exceptions, but I am not 100% sure about that, so I will let someone else answer that. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

I did a fishless cycle...

How long did that take you, and want did you use to seed the ammonia? Liquid ammonia or something you let "go stinky?"

According to a couple of books I have, they get on well with barbs about its size, such as Rosy Barbs. (But I think a decent school of Rosies would need a larger tank than you have.) Also loaches, so you might want to look at those.

In the past I've kept them with danios, cory catfish, serpae tetras, and a julidochromis transcriptus without issue (not all at the same time). Paradise fish have great personality and the blue/red-stripe variety is a really nice looking fish. Good luck!

Here's a good place to check for compatible species

I checked dwarf gourami's as they don't list paradise fish and dwarf gourami is the closest I could find. Bear in mind, though, that paradise fish have the reputation for being a bit aggressive and they also have long fins, so avoid fin nippers. There seems to be lots of options. If you go for the loaches though, kuhli loaches are really the only ones that would fit in your tank.

Pangios and Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki are about the only loaches for that tank. Schisturas, Nemacheilus and hillstream loaches assuming you are planning to make it a river tank though not to be achieved if you really want the paradise fish.

The cycle took me 3 weeks and I put some of those Ammonia Chips into the filter cartridge to get rid of the ammonia.
