i just got him last week! He's (i think it's a he) is about 3.5 inches. what really shy and had faded color the first day or two...but then really started to brighten up! now he's even curious about the gravel vac, he even nips at it!

This is my first Cichlid, and made the beef heart recipe, he absolutely devours it! every last spec!

He's in a 55g....i plan on also adding a convict, and hopefully if I can find one, a Salvini!...there are also 4 Giant Danio's which I might return (I used them to cycle), if there start getting attacked...so far so good (I think there too quick for cichlids to catch!)

You should keep the Giant Danio. I have 2 in my tank with some cichlids, including JD and Con. Giant Danio is great dither.

You have great coloration on that JD. My JD is less than 2". I hope he will turn out to be a beauty.

Very nice jack dempsey and tank. I'll have pics of mine very soon. My normal jacks are only a little over an inch and not much to look at, although my male has great promise...

i don't think I'll have this problem cause I plan on getting just one convict. I really don't want to deal with a ton of convict fry every few weeks!

JD..convict..salvini......and a firemouth?

I agree, I think it was teh behavior due to the breeding that made the fight happen...good luck, keep some pics of the Jack though, he's NICE

I've a female Con, male GT, and a male Jack in the tank. They are alright with each other. Just occasionally Jack will chase the Con around the tank when he thinks that Con is too near to his cave. I've removed my 2" male Con from the tank because he was chasing every fish. Now he is living in another tank temporary until my Green Terror heals from the wound he got from the Con.

Actually, soon my Firemouth will join the Con, GT, and Jack soon. My Firemouth is still too small to defend for himself just yet. He is living with my Blood Parrot right now...being protected by the bigger fish :D

I'm still debating if I should get a Salvini. They have amazing coloration.
