I have some slow ballon mollies in with my lemon tetras. The issue is that the tetras finish all the food before the mollies have at it.

what can I do, with out over feeding that is.:help:

Have you tried dropping food in one corner (where the tetras will go crazy) and putting some food on the other side of the tank for the mollies? If that doesn't work, your LFS will carry a divider that you can slip into the tank and keep the fast and slow fish apart...

This can be a problem, and with time you learn that even though temerament-wise the fish may be fine that sometimes feeding differences can lead to fish being less than compatible.

One thing with mollies, though, is they'll nible on algae in your tank...if you have some algae, they'll be better off than other slow fish that don't graze a bit.

I also experience the similar problem when i added a ram to my tank. The mollies and silver dollars would try to eat the flakes as fast as possible before it even reached the bottom of the tank for the ram and the cherry barbs.. So what i do is i feed in 2 parts of the tank and instead of just dropping the flakes on top i submerge them and let them spread out in the tank that way everyone gets a bite.

cool thanks guys.

There is deffenatly algae that the mollies are grazing on. I will try both your methods and see which works best.

It seems like the mollies are in there own world when I feed the fish, they almost seem to clue in 5 seconds too late.

Try hand feeding. take a pinch of flakes, submerse it and try and bring it near the mollies they will sense the food and come closer and start eating..

I had to hand feed my ram today since none of my bloodworms ever seem to reach him

tricking the other fish is the best way. fed some they will go crazy then you can fed the others.

as for the blood worms you can use a turkey baster to spot feed them.

I had the same prob with feeding my neon/cardinals they would get bullied out of the way by the larger discus / rams. I would just throw in flakes and some micro granuels (a food made by Nutrimax).
