Extra tanks - no place to setup :(

Hey all,

I have never used an RUGF but since there is a big boxing day sale coming up I would like to try it.

I assume that I also need some sort of HOB to filter the waste out of the water. Does it need to be full sized - for the tank size or can it be smaller due to having the RUGF?

Anything else that I should know or pick up?

Thanks,

I always choose to opt for a larger HOB..keep in mind that your RFUG will have prefilters for the powerhead. so some detritus will be picked up by the prefilters(which should be cleaned weekly in old tank water.

ditto all of above...I would go at least normal size on the HOB, and try for 10x or more turnover/hour as a minimum (total powerheads + hob).

A lot of folks use the Penguin 660R powerheads; they come with everything you need to connect as RUGF right in the box.

On my 40G I have 2 660r powerheads and a Whisper 40 HOB, on my 75G, 3 660r's and a Whisper 60 HOB.
