Hello, I was wondering if a 30 gallon (long) would be big enough for one Senegal Bichir, thanks.

Would it be alone? If so, maybe. If it was alone and you kept the water quality up it should be fine. If you end up with an exceptionally large on (over 12") then you may need to upgrade.

Thanks, and it may be alone, but possibly 2-3 small 1'' fish.

If you get some floating plants in there you may be able to get a stable population going (at best). Either that or fast stuff like zebra danios. Either way assume that anything that goe sin will end up as food.

Best diet for it will be New Life Spectrum. That is all my bichirs get and I think they do much better on it.

Just wondering how will the floating plants help?

Guppies hang out up top and so will the fry. I have a couple fake plants suction cupped in the top back corner. This is the center of where they hang out. It will simply give them shelter from the bichir, hopefully long enough to keep their population up high enough.

Just wondering how will the floating plants help?
Bichirs themselves are great escape artists. The additional floating plants should prevent it from jumping out of the tank. However, I admit my 75g tank containing the bichir was open-topped and it never jumped.:lipssealedsmilie: *knocks wood*
