View Full Version : Looking for strong plants

I have two filters in my 30 gal planted tank...a cannister of some sort (I forget the extact one, I'd have to look) and a hang on the tank Penguin filter.

I had to modify the Penguin because the flow out the front of it was splashing up and getting water on my lights/hood. My modification to it resulted in a pretty darn strong water flow straight down from the filter.

I've had a couple plants in that area of water flow...and the heavy flow has destroyed all but one of them...a java fern.

I'd like to put some other strong plant there that would not only survive the heavy flow...but perhaps do well in it. That bare spot in the tank is driving me nuts!

If I can't get a good plant in that area I'll put in some wood to create some sort of barrier there... But I'd much prefer a plant.

Any suggestions? This is a community tank with a pH of about 7 (roughly), good water quality, fairly soft water and...off the top of my head....2 watts per gallon.

Thanks!
Crawford

I have a lot of flow blasting through my Tanganyikan tank, and Anubias nana (or barteri v nana, if you care) has done very well. Low light needs, tough as nails.

I think that crypts enjoy current, although straight down might be difficult.

try a piece of driftwood or an attractive rock just under that point. It will spread the current and wont be bothered by it :)

Is the cannister is rated to handle a 30. Then you could just use it and take out the HOB?
