Just bought a new light its a 250 Watts metal halide with 4 25 watt 420 actinic but does,nt seem bright enough could i change 2 of the 420 for 2 marine white 14,000k . Tank is 85 uk gallons thats 40in 24in 24in in size.
AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERY ONE :grinyes::grinyes::grinyes::grinyes::grinyes:

Happy xmas dude...

The actinics are there for your pleasure, so swapping them wont be any more beneficial to the tank..All they will do is make the corals stand out more...

What is the make and model of the lighting unit you brought mate? let us know that and then should be able to advise on what the unit can take..

Had a gander over the light unit, which is a very nice unit indeed. I would suggest you leave it as it is mate, its plenty of light for your tank depth...However, to answer your question, the unit is only covered by warranty for the supplied wattage of bulb, so, if you swap any of the actinics out, they should only be of the same wattage...

Hope that helps

Niko

Is it one of the single MH models? If so, part of the reason it may not seem bright enough would be that a single MH only effectively covers around a 2 foot square. Since the tank is 40 inches long, one MH in the center isn't enough to provide full coverage from end to end.
