My angelfish that I have had for a couple of months just unexpectedly died. My water parameters are fine, but all things went to h*ll when we lost power on Friday the 21st from 8:30AM to 2:00PM. I tried to run the sump tank pump, but that only lasted about 4 hours. Do you think that was the cause? I checked all over his body after I pulled him from the tank and I could not find anything visibly wrong with him. The only other thing I can think of is my 8" Bala harassed him to death. I am not sure if this is the case b/c up until Friday they would swim side by side and float around together. Thoughts?

It is a possiblilty that the oxygen levels got too low.
By "fine" do you mean 0 ammonia, 0 nitrITE?

it may have been the bala, or the stress from the temperature change.

Yes, nitrate stays around 15, nitrite 0, ammonia 0, ph 8.0 (constant). I monitored the temperature while the power was off and it stayed right at 80. I was not aerating the tank, I was only running the pump that was circulating 650GPH and then had aeration on my other bio-media to keep it alive. Grr!

the sump pump ? circulation pump..the one that moves water from the sump to the main tank?
or were you just circulating water in the sump?
I went thru a 2 day power outtage last winter..temp in the house and tanks dropped to 50-60 (except for the acrlic which tended to keep the temp warmer longer)
I didn't lose a fish.. I used a high volume airpump to pump the tank for 2-5 minutes every 4 hrs..
if you did not have circulation in the main tank..I suspect that may be the culprit on the loss of your angel.

Yes the Mag Drive 9 that circulates water from the sump to the main tank. The main tank is 75 gallons w/ overflow and the sump tank is 30 gallons.

if you had the sump in operation then you had gas exchange taking place.
I would look to another issue towards the death of your angel.
maybe another stressor or aggression.
