Ok my jag was absolutely destroyed by my channel catfish. 50 percent of his scales are gone, and the back half of his body is jus like puss-y and filmish. I moved him to a 10 gallon just so he'll be safe for a little while. He han't eaten in 3 days. What do I do? I really don't want to have to kill him or anything. Is there a medicine I can use to kill the bacterial infection? Please help me. =[

you could do maracyn & maracyn II for bacterial infection, and melafix if you want to help healing
that's what I'd do anyways

What are your water parameters? Don't treat yet until you are sure your water parameters are up to your expectations. Your fish could be producing too much mucous membrane as he is severely stressed by the damage done to him. What food are you using right now? Give him time to recover and do plenty of water changes to keep the water clean.

:iagree: with the above,
For feeding if it won't feed get some new life spectrum cichlid pellets if you can. The garlic in it will help him and bring back his appitite. :)

I only tested ammonia and nitrite, and it's 0/0. Nitrates i'm not sure of, but I did a water change last week. He is in a 10 gallon all by him self now. He usually eats frozen krill and freeze dried krill and shrimp pellets, but hasn't eaten since the attack.
Do you agree with the Maracyn and Maracyn II?
Do you agree with the Maracyn and Maracyn II?
Yes, I do as long as the water is kept clean and food varied though as I said, give him to recover as he may not eat the food yet.:)

His filmish puss-yness has gone down a lot, but you can still see his flesh with no scales. Half his tail is missing, i'm not sure it will grow back, but i'm not sure. I will post pix in the morning. Tomorrow i'm going to the LFS to get Maracyn and maracyn II.
I got my fish out of my 29 gallon, and it is all his except for a royal pleco. Filtration is an Eleite Hush 35 and a Penguin 350. I'll do a water change tomorrow, too. I tried using salt, but I didn't have any aquarium salt. So what I used was "all natrual" Mediteranian Sea Salt, and have not seen any ill effects on my fish.
So how will maracyn and maracyn II work with salt? Or should I not use salt while using the maracyn's?
Thanks for the help guys, Andrew.

Don't use salt. Just stick with Maracyn and do plenty of water changes.

My Jag did the same to a Polleni recently, I thought It was gone for sure...both his flanks looked like half eaten fish fillets...I treated him with melafix and after a couple of days he started feeding again...had a couple of sideways days but eventually came good...as said above keep the water spotlessly clean, only leave the food in for 5 mins...if not eaten take it back out. do the water changes as per the melafix instructions for damaged fish.
Good luck...hope he comes through OK
