I am trying to feed my 2 clowns this food. It is very small pelets and I know people who swear by it but the problem is the current. Do you guys turn off your powerheads when feeding your clowns or other fish? Are there any larger flake foods you would recommend? Thanks

no, the current shouldnt be turned off.... fish love the "chase" affect the current gives.

Personally i feed clowns mysis, formula 1 frozen food, and my own special recipe of frozen food... they sometimes nibble on the nori i put into the tank. I prefer to feed my fish frozen rather than dry though.

Maybe your clowns just dont like the food? Or do they eat it and you worried about pieces getting away and rotting? If your scared of it spoiling in the tank, i wouldnt be... just dont over feed. What your clowns miss your hermits and clean up crew should be able to grab.

My clown doesn't eat anything just frozen raw chicken meat. During feeding i turn off the PHs.

They have been in the tank for just over a day now and have nibbled on it slightly. One of them seems to be "Surfing" the current while the other just seems to swim calmly around the tank. The little surfer swims from the left side of the tank straight into the current to the right. Once he reaches the right he goes up and down the glass really fast and then he swim straight into the current and floats back to the left side of the tank. He is a nut.

Can you link to the food you use? Is it flake or pellet? I don't have the time to mix up frozen foods everyday for my fish as I am at work at 7 in the morning and off at 6 but that doesn't guarantee when I get home.

Oh and I dont have a hermit yet because I am doing a reef tank. I might pick one up tomorrow along with my scooter blenny for a month or two before I start getting corals and such. The blenny I will keep. I do have 1 astrea snail but it has hardly moved in 24 hours but when I picked it up about 3 hrs ago it sucked back inside its shell.

my clowns ate anything i put in the tank

I have never had a problem with the PHs when feeding my damsels. They, like clowns, seem to enjoy the chasing of the food through the current. I usually feed mine frozen mysis, frozen cyclops and flake. They love the mysis and cyclops. They swim all around like crazy trying to get the little cyclops.

If you are worried about having the hermit crab in a reef thank then I would suggest maybe a shrimp like a peppermint. My peppermint shrimp absolutley goes nuts over any frozen food and believe me, he will pick up any left over piece of food the falls below, be it flake or frozen. He is a goofball.

Ya I actually got some frozen Mysis today and they ate that. The about an hour after I fed the Oraglo and the one that hadnt been eating ate it. I think they were just settling in and now they are swimming around more together and eating.
