I now have an added bonus. I have a small fuge area in my sump that I removed most everything, left the sand and a little LR rubble and some cheto. Left the light to cycle like a normal fuge. I made a 30 gallon fuge that is separate to the sump and focused my attention to getting that up and running and cultivating pods (which has happened nicely).

Just looked at the sump fuge and there are at least 50-100 mysis swimming around. Tried to take a pic but they are fast and small so hard to get a good lens shot - but I will still keep trying.

I haven't "seeded" them into the system.....nor have I added new LR recently. Any ideas how they got there?

I have some that came with chaeto from a local reefer.

I haven't seen them progress through the system...tried to get them into the new fuge to hopefully multiply..no success. I guess I will just have to wait until they find there way there..past the skimmer, heater, phos reactor and two pumps. COuld be a long wait.

Have you tried shaking the chaeto over where you want them to be? Any in it will drop and swim off.

I just tried that, got more pods into the 30gfuge.....but no mysis. They are all happily swimming in the old small fuge...at the bottom, in the rubble.:wall: smart little creatures.

the owner of my LFS syphoned several live mysis shrimp out of one of his tanks and now i have hundreds. they multiply very fast. now they are in my tank too, came from the refugium. their eye glow when you flesh light them. i never had them untill an actual intro to my system.

Sachs Systems Aquaculture (in FL) sells live mysid shrimp:

I've ordered from them in the past with great success. They have excellent customer service and are very friendly / cooperative. I'll be ordering from them again once spring rolls around and the weather warms back up a little.

fsn77: glad to hear that you have had good experience with them. I have looked at their site to order from, but hadn't heard anything about them. They are one of the few places that sells the water lettuce which pods love.

I go on a wild hunch you meant "bro" (typo-lol my typo didn't have the same humor mysis vs mysid but bra vs bro is much funnier) and say that the temp mine are at is 78 degrees.

Here is a link to info on the mysid: http://www.mblaquaculture.com/content/organisms/americamysis_bahia.php

Here is a link to more specific info on raising them http://www.mblaquaculture.com/assets/docs/MBL_AQ_Mysid_Generator.pdf

I've got a bunch of them in my tank. They're mainly nocturnal in my tank and quite numerous after the tank lights are out.

Once, while viewing my sun coral at night, many of them congregated toward the light beam and my sun coral captured several of them (I suspect it and the other LPS' feed on them each night).

The problem w/ordering live mysis is they are cannibals. You might order a couple hundred & by the time you get them you'll only get 1 BIG one! If you want the critters in your fuge to flourish, you need to feed Phytoplankton to the tank.
