I ordered a custom size tank that I'll be setting up a reef with. tank size is 36 wide by 24 deep by 24 high. (I like the extra depth).

here is what I'm thinking the layout will be like.

What do you guys think?

Grins, what do you mean ?

This is the second option, if I decide to go with a sump that's less than 36" wide.

It's a smaller piece, and the vertical pieces would prob. support the tank better, seeing how they're right under them.

Btw, the wood I'll use is Maple (or Birch) presswood. vertical are all 1" thick, and the piece that the tank site on is 2" thick.

Cheech: what did you use (s/w) to design you stand. I am in the process of doing the same and have only got it on paper?

I think the first one is better.

I use Autocad. (I'm at work, took some time to draw it up.)

If you like, send me a sketch of what you'd like to do, with as much detail as possible (sizes, wood thickness) and I'll draw it up for you.

I like the fact that i have the spacing for drygoods on the sides, on the first one. Pretty much comes down to which sump I'm getting.

Cheech:

My design is much closer to your first. I wanted more room for the sump and fuge and then the side cabinet for all my electronics. I wanted to add a fan/vent to keep the ballast for the MH cooler and to mitigate any (though small) impact to evap. I personally like the first design but would consolidate the two end pieces to one to maximize the cabinet space. I realize that design wise it is then out of balance, but I am a function person. IMHO.

And thank you very much for the kind offer!

no prob. almondsaz. I didn't even think of the ballast for the MH. Chances are i'll just be lieing it on the floor though . We'll see.

I'll take pics as the project progresses. gonna go to the lfs and check out some sump sizes first.

And it's no problem at all to draw up your sketch on Cad. Goes for anyone who might need the help .
