Today i setup a 2 foot, 80 litre tank, firstly i added my coral sand, 100 watt heater, 1000litre filter and i added the water by using a hose to fill the tank then i used Prime to declorinate the water, then i mixed my salt into a bucket of water from the tank and put it back into the my tank, then i put 8kg of live rock in there with a powerhead and last of all a hydrometer! Now i have everything turned on and going fine!

btw i plan to put a pair of clown fish in there to breed....

my questions are:

what should my temp be? when cycling? and after?

how long should i cycle my tank before adding clownfish?

What else do i need to know? as i am new to marines!

cheers damo

On the water, do i presume your using tap water? If so, i would be tempted to not use it, and use RO or RO/DI water. Just using dechlor sometimes is not enough as it still leaves lots of elements in the water which are best removed like metal contents etc etc...

Once your rock, sand and water is in the tank ( keep a count of how much water you add to fill it up ), you can add the salt directly to the tank and mix it in there when the water temp has got up to the correct temp, about 78 - 80f...use your hydrometer to get the SG correct..

A pair of clowns is cool....

About 78 - 80f is a good temperature to aim for. This temp is always the same no matter what the tank is doing like cycling or normal running..

how long should i cycle my tank before adding clownfish?

You need to cycle the tank untill the cycle has finished..depending on how cured the live rock is, ammonia source etc, it can be anywhere from about 2 to 6 weeks...its an unknown figure really. Your water test results will keep you informed of how the cycle is going, and where in the cycle you currently are..

What else do i need to know? as i am new to marines!

LOL....a very open ended question really....Your best bet is to read through some tank threads of around your size tank ( about 20 - 30 gallon setups ) and digest how they have been setup, look at their equiptment, and ask lots of questions....

No matter how many times a question has been asked or how stupid it may sound, ALWAYS ask it....thats what were here for, to help you each step of the way...
