Can someone tell me if my blue Dampsey is a male or female? I am trying to buy a regular Dampsey to match he or she.

Does this fish have the red on top of its dorsal fin? Also how big is the EBJB?

More than likely it's male, because a batch of EBJD fry are 75% Male and 25% female, but there is a chance it could be female.

Where do you get your info?

Tiger, this is not correct. Blue Dempsey's are very difficult to sex. Only 100% way is to vent them or wait for them to pair up and spawn.

Well let's see MACFISH on wildcichlids.net they were breeding EBJD's and most of the fry came out male.

However females can be found in the industry. For two 90% of males will have a red stripe on top of their dorsal fin with alongated dorsal and anal fins.

Males get bigger and females get fatter in all strains of JD's.

To be honest I think anyone should do their research before buying any fish no matter what they're buying. For one this helps with proper water conditions, heating, temp, nutrition, sexing, and more.

But unfortunately a lot of people just buy a fish cause they think its pretty then it happens to die on them, instead they should of gotten the fishes scientific name and researched the fish for proper care.

No argument there.

I do find most of your other info inaccurate. Posting false or unverified info is only going to do more damage to someone who hasn't done their homework.

its a natural gene but its not a easy one to breed. Awesome fish but they are often weak because the electric blue gene is not so strong.
