I currently cut my tank lights on at 1pm and cut them off at 9pm (we like to see the tank at night). However there is 'room light' before this 1pm hits and after 9pm when the tank lights cut off there is room light in our living room often until 11pm or later. I would say it's fairly subdued lighting. So outside of tank lighting hours should I cover the tank and keep it in darkness?

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. My lights come on at 10am and go off at 6pm. After that I have my "house" lights on and I've never covered the tank. I often go down in the middle of the night and stick all my house lights on with no ill effect to the fish.

My lights start coming on at 11:00am then the first halide at 1:00pm the second at 2:30pm then they start shutting off at 8:00-10:30pmAmbient light starts coming in the room around 6:00-7:00 in the morning. Have had no problems in 5 years because of lighting.
