I will be setting up a 45 gallon tank next week. Having a hard time deciding on what a good mix of fish would be for it. I probably will start the tank out with some Guppies or Tetras. Would it be bad to put 1 or 2 Cichlids in the tank, if the other fish would have enough cover to take refuge in? That is just a thought. I already have a 20 gallon community tank going. Thanks for any input.

Also, what is a good number of fish for this size setup?

I would guess it would depend on the cichlids you choose.

How are you cycling it?

We keep going back on forth on the fish think. As of now we have ruled out the Cichlids. Never did a fishless cycle, so we will probably start with four hearty fish to cycle it. Maybe some guppies.

Why not try fishless cycling. It it better than fishy cycling. 1. you are not stressing any fish and 2. it is faster. For imformation on how to do it, check my getting started (http://njdevilsfan130.tripod.com/Getting_started.htm) page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks andruboz, I will fix it now. I am at my dad's work now and usually if I was home, I would just copy and paste it from my favorites, but I actually had to write it from memory.
