Hey All,

Just started up my new 12g nano cube. Im new to this live rock and coral stuff. Today I went and bought some more rock from a dif fish store. I thought I was getting a deal because the rock had stuff growing on it. But come to find out after searching this site it looks like it has Rock Anemones, Bubble Algae. I took the rock out and tried to remove as much bubble alge as possible. Im not worried about the algae because a emerald crab came along for the ride and I read that it should take care of the algae but Im kinda worried about the rock anemones because I would like to start adding stuff to my tank as soon as it cycles.

Any advice on how to control these things if they become a problem in the future? Also should I be mad at this store for selling me rock with this stuff on it or is it common. The other rock I bought (dif store) didnt have anything on it., just nice color(but they only had larger pieces)

That might be my last time buying SW stuff at that store.

Joe's Juice, a liquid that you squirt at the rock anemones, works nicely. Since you have a small bundle of live rock I would just take out the rocks and blast all the anemones with Joe's Juice. You can also try squirting hot boiling water. But that only as about a 15% success rate. I have been using hot boiling water for the past month or two and it has taken a while to bring my population down. I have some larges ones that won't go away so I might give in and order Joe's Juice online (since my LFS doesn't seem to carry it at the moment).

And I would be disappointed in my LFS too if they sold rock like that. Did they charge you a lot? If they did, then shame on them.

Well I've only seen one come back since I cleaned the rock off. Can I try to smash it and scrap it off the rock? Will that kill it?

Smashing it might cause bits to fly around and reproduce. You can glue a piece of rock over it. Or just blast it with hot water.
