when u switch to halides, do you usually get a little more green algae at first?

I didn't, but it is possible you'd get an algae bloom. If you've switched how long are you keeping the lights on?

same as my fluorescents, 9hrs

Well the difference could have helped to promote an issue that was already there but it wouldn't have caused it on their own.

you may want to start with as little as 4-5 hours a day to acclimate your corals.
an increases in lightng can often cause them.

i dont have any corals yet, and the lights have been on full cycle for a week already. probablly too late to acclimate?

if you dont have any corals or anything tha tis photosynthetic you dont need to worry about acclimating things that are in there.
As far as adding new corals, if they were in the fish store under much worse lighting, you are going to want to start them further down in the tank, maybe even on the side and then slowly move them up to where youw ant them.
