I'm still fighting with my hair algae problem, but it's slowly getting better. I've harvested it once, but it just came back. I plan to harvest it again this weekend. I had a ball of chaeto that came with the free live sand, so I moved it from the refugium to the main tank to give it extra light to grow. It has tripled in size, so I think it is getting close to competing with the hair algae.
Today, the glass is speckled with what appears to be baby astrea snails. I need to get a magnifying glass to be able to be sure though. Yes, I know I should already have one.
I haven't lost any more zoos since the first few that perished shortly after I got them. Today, I noticed some new baby zoos that are red wine-colored. They are pretty. There are some other baby zoos as well, so I don't think the tank is all that bad off.
I bought some packages of Ocean Wonders natural cured aragonite Reef Rocks recently, but haven't put them in the tank and moved the zoos to them. That's another project for this weekend after I harvest the hair algae again.
The only fish that has survived is one of the two red scooters I initially bought. After losing the banggai pair and the twin spot goby, I decided to wait a while before adding more fish. The red scooter has a nice plump belly and is always cruising around finding food to eat. I don't even have to feed her anything. I toss a small cube of brine or mysis in every other week, but I haven't noticed her eating any.
I'm ordering some other snails for the tank and some mangroves for the refugium.
My next purchase will be an RO/DI unit. I just need to save a little and research which one I want.
