I know that this question will have various answers, but I will ask anyway:

What is the recommended number of otos for a 55 Gallon? See belowfor current inhabitants.

Also, the tank has various silk plants and multiple places to hide.

i agree!!!!! theyre best roaming all around on live plants i think. but to answer your ?.

10 fish
12 bottom feeders,algae eaters.

depending on your cleaning schedule and how strict you are and how good your filtration is.
id say 5 more otos.

if you wanna max out your fish capacity in my opinion--20 lola huge school of 22otos yes!!!!

42 fish total

22 otos in a 55...not nearly enough algae to go around, you would have to add a lot of veggies to keep them from starving, even then I dont know if you could keep them from starving

lol to max it out fish wise. i know, but didnt wanna get into the requirements. he asked how many how could put in there, without respects to what degree. I recommend 5

If I were you, I would start with 3-5 and add a couple otos occasionally until you get to a number you feel is healthy for your tank. Keep an eye on the algae, making sure there's always some for them to eat - but always supplement with some kind of protein source (mine love shrimp pellets).

I agree with twill. In a non planted tank I would not go with more than 5. Also I would leave the back glass alone when you feel the need to clean the glass in the tank.
