What aquatic plants does silver dollars dislike? I have two slver dollars about the size of like 3 inches. I also have 2 blood red parrots about 2 1/2 inches, one inch angel fish, one chinese algae eater, and finally a flowerhorn blood parrot 2 1/2. 20 gallon tank.
My dad just bought me a 40 gallon tank :grinyes: along with a fluval 205 canister filter, and 2 bags of gray/black-looking and substrate. I happily finished everything during count down new year midnight. The substrate is finally dissipating thankfully and the whole tank is looking clearer each day. Used the fishless cycling method, been 3 days and it's not enough. My old tank is on the other side sitting in a table, thankfully I can take my time with my 40 gal. I have a idea, but iunno if it works(probably will) can't I just rinse off the media in the 40 gallons that was in my 20 gallon? Just so it can nerf up the cycle.

I won't say for sure, but lilies and onion plants are safe from most fish.
Java fern, Java moss, other types of javas, Banana plant. You might see a small bite on some leafs but they just "taste" it.

Java Fern and Java Moss are very easy to care for and do not require much lighting at all.

Too bad Cacti wouldn't grow under water. I can't think of any fish that would try more than once to eat it...lol.

My school of silver dollars chowed down on a huge clump of java moss and a small java fern after everyone I talked to said they wouldn't eat it. They're eaten just about every other kind of plant as well. So, I'll go with plastic ones as well.

The key is to find something that is bitter to the taste. that's what deters leaf nibblers. bolbitis, onion bulbs, giant vallisneria (maybe), anubius (maybe), are just some of the things to try. If you can work up the guts to nibble them, let your taste bulbs guide you (heh-heh).

The combined thickness of the leaf along with the taste stops them. Try bolbitis or giant val. Let your taste bubs guide you (heh-heh).

ANACHARIS!!! I got 12 stems from petco, I placed them in my tank, 6 on the left, 6 on the right.. and guess what? My silver dollars aren't eating them!!! Looks like they still think they are fake plants. I just hope they dont give it a try. Are anacharis hard to care for?

fast growing, easy to care, low light, good food for them. once they take that first bite it is game over.

What can I use to keep the anacharis from floating? It's kinda hard trying to get the anacharis firmly put on the substrate. They still arent eating the anacharis :)
can use plant anchors $2 for a pack of 8 or 10
I got the same problem for now.. so i just let them float.
