View Full Version : Nuchal hump fun!
A couple of days ago I discovered if I drop pellets on my 1' midas's nuchal hump while its out of the water they will get stuck to it and he can swim around the tank with them all stuck to him.
Am I mean?
Does anyone else do this with their large cichlids?

ha never heard that before
The scenario seems similar to some fish who jumped into the carpet and returned later to the tank with dog hair and other stuff stuck on them.

lol I've been there. I can never find my nets so when I get new fish I drain their bags into my hand above a bucket. I've had a couple of them flop out of my hand and hit the floor on me. The worst is when my midas jumped through the lid of my tank and hit the floor, luckily it woke me up. I thought there was a raccoon in my house or something, I was scared lol.

what's the point?
can i tie up your arms, stick something to your forehead and laugh at your inability to remove it?

I think its pretty funny, not cruel really in any sense. It eventually falls off right?

No kidding! Can you imagine the wound to his psyche? I can't even contemplate how hard it will be to find a good therapist to work with him later.

:iagree:
Would you hold a dog underwater and attach clothes pins to it only to laugh while it coughs up water and yips in pain when you are done? The only difference is the dogs ability to voice it's oppinion.

usually not a good idea to mess with the slime coat of a fish.
while it may not be considered cruel ..it may not be considered wise.
it is possible for the food to say there..deteriorate and become an irritation if not an infection.

no it stays there FOREVER.

it falls off within 10 seconds, if it were to stay there I'd remove it.

you people need to lighten up. Get off your pedestals and stop preaching to everyone who doesn't sing to, read to, pet and coddle their fish.

hardly...
you really cant relate the 2 instances. it is probably pretty funny and not really cruel to watch a fish trying to eat something it cant reach for a few seconds until it does get it, but bringing an animal close to its death is completely different. but I do agree its probably not a great idea to mess with a fish's skin coat
