Hey guys. I am going to use some sort of plastic or glass to separate my aquarium into two parts.
I thought maybe I could sink the piece of plastic into a canal in the Florida keys for a few months, so it gets covered with barnacles. Then I could take it out, dry it, clean it and pop the whole thing in my brackish tank. Thought it might look cool with the fiddlers crawling on it.
Would that work or would the barnacles all just fall off when drying/cleaning?
I didn't think I could use the barnacles they sell at those nautical shops since they glue them together.

Just an idea, probably a bad one :)

Thanks!

Are you looking to keep live barnacles in your tank, or just the look of dead ones?

i have some of the shells and stuff from the nautical shops i got large enough peices that werent glued. boiled the crap out of em, let them air dry and then put them in the tank. my niger trigger sleeps in one at night, its his lil home :)

I like how they look both dead and alive, I want them dead though.
It's a brackish tank so I don't think they'd live long if I popped em in live.

The piece I need would be huge, I probably couldn't afford it if I found it in a store! Maybe I can just get some smaller pieces to add in for decoration if this doesn't pan out.
Thanks!

I bought some large barnacle chunks on ebay...hold on and let me see if I can find more. It make not be what you had in mind, but they were clusters of 5-8 barnacles, each one between 1-2". I think I got 3 of them for like 10 bucks, my bbgs love them.

Duh.. I can't believe I didn't look on ebay. Thanks! Looks like maybe I could get a bunch and glue them together safely or something. Just have to make sure they don't have a bunch of gunk sprayed on them.
