:help: i have a 29g long tank, which has been set up for a long time, with fake plants and plenty of cover, with 5 corys and 1 angelfish in it, its bare, it needs something a bit more energetic in there, but i dont know what,we did try 3 elegant rasboras but i decided they would grow far too big,so they went back to the store after i was told by them they would grow to around 2-2.5 inches. so i am now stuck for ideas, we did have 2 giant danios and 2 platys but they are now in my friends tank as i didnt think they fitted in well, so they are now with a few others of their own kinds, in a bigger tank. but it still leaves me with an empty looking tank. i dont like gouramis, ive never had any luck with them, and i dont like the daftly bright colours like some of the platys. i dont know what to do. i have considered giving my angel away, and having some smaller fishies in schools, but im too attatched to the big guy, please someone, i need some ideas on what to do. i walk around the fish in shops and like some, but none that really go well in my tank or go with angels. i think im too fussy! i would like maybe 1 larger fish to go in there, but dont know what would fit,and what would get along with my angel. im clueless

2-2.5 inch fish should be fine. What made you think they'll grow too big for the tank?

What species did you try so far?

Rams, apistos, tetras, pencilfish and hatchets are your best bets along with small species of plecos and then corydoras.

a school of "larger" tetras such as lemons, black skirts (nippy in schools less than 4, having a school of 6 pretty much eliminates the nippiness), rummynoses, or diamond tetras will look great with your current stock, and the angel will be fine with them.

petshop told me they would grow to 2.5",read up on net and said 5-7",didnt want to take the risk.

i do like the rummy tetras but my angel 'loves them' more,he will quite happily dine on them if he manages to catch one. im not keen on rams, i have no idea what apistos are lol, sorry to sound dim, we have tried congo tetra but they shreaded my angels fins. has anyone ever kept a polypterus with an angelfish? or with corys? i do also like the pencilfish,i like fishies that look a little different, something to really catch peoples eyes.i will keep looking, hopefully i will find something that will work out with him x

2.5-3 inches is the max. That is really too much.

i have no idea what apistos are lol, sorry to sound dim,
Apisto is short term for apistogramma. These are dwarf cichlids of South America.

has anyone ever kept a polypterus with an angelfish? or with corys?
Your 29g cannot support one long-term. For one Senegal bichir, 55g would be the minimum. Angels are usually fine with them. Haven't tried the corydoras with them.

Why not try them? They're still similar in size with rummies so if your angel likes them, then you'll have to give them a miss.

well,i went to my decent lfs today, and the only employee who i trust was in today, i talked to him and he said that giant danios are probably our best bet judging by what fishies i like, so even though i gave away the 2 we had, i brought a lovely school of 6 today, they are so active and healthy looking, and have already eaten, and i know my angel doesnt bother with them as hes lived with them before so no worries of buying him 'live food'! since we have had him hes eaten neons, rummys, a headstander, and attacked gouramis, dwarf and blue ones, a ram, and a dwarf rainbow. i now have a tank that works lol,so thanks to everyone for all your help x
