Just Got a New Tank, Added Some Stuff Called "Cycle" to Get the Process Going, So...

I have a 1 gallon tank with 2 white cloud minnows that I'm currently treating with Maracyn (for what seems to be a very very tiny outbreak of mouth fungus on one of them). The 1 gallon tank has been a nightmare to work with and I have a snail infestation.

I really want to move these minnows into the new tank, although it has only been 3 days (its a 6.6 gallon tank). I tested the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels and they're all optimal. The 2 minnows were given to me in terrible shape, so I'm hoping they can last as two "hardy" fish in a new tank.

Any advice? I want to buy new fish and add them to the tank as well, but I want to make sure the fungus is fully gone. It's been hard to add the medication to a 1 gallon tank (its powder form, 1 packet per 10 gallons).

Would it be better to just move them?

Thanks

If there are other fish already in it, no. The fish that have a problem should be healed before mixing them into a tank with others. You will just be taking a risk of the others contracting the problem.

If the other tank does not have fish, you could move them over. How long and how, did the 6 gal tank get cycled?

the tank has been cycling only for 4 days. i used a chemical called "cycle" which introduces nitrite and nitrate bacteria into water. i also added some fish flakes to create ammonia (a very tiny amount). i'm planning on treating the 2 fish for the wknd with maracyn and then moving them on monday.

Live bacteria doesn't come in a bottle.

Seems to me that Cycle is an expensive, useless product, most probably snake oil.

In my experience as a Cycle "sucker" it did not aid in the nitrification process and did not add beneficial bacteria to the tank.

But the stuff sure is recommended out there at all the pet stores.

the guy at petco actually recommended it. i know people hate on petco, but this guy has been helping me a lot and he seems to know what he's talking about.

I am sure that he meant well.
In my experience, the only things that you can use to "jump start" a bacteria cycle are 1) things from an already cycled tank such as gravel, plants, filter/filter media or 2) BioSpira - this is available at some LFS. However, I have heard that BioSpria may or may not work. I have heard both good and bad things about it.
Cycle has not worked for me.
I would leave the White Clouds in the tank where they are until the treatment is done and the fungal infection is gone. This will give you time to cycle your new tank! (yay!)
Good luck!

i really dont know what to do anymore for this guy. he was given to me in bad shape and was healthy for a while and now i dont know. it appears as though i seen some fin rot too on his fins.

theres only 1 other fish who appears perfectly healthy. should i move that 1 fish into the other tank (the new one), and then do a big water change on the 1 gallon and keep the other sick fish in there?

i just feel bad.
