Well on a trip to the caost, the kids were collecting shells. Whan we got them home, I put them in to fresh water to rinse them off so they would not smell!! Lo and behold, they are ALIVE!! They were very far up in the dune area, and very dried out, yet they live!! I put them in a small tank(2.5g) with some old tank water and a small powerfilter. I have given the tank some phytoplex and really am at a loss as to what to do with them. Would they be ok to put in main tank later?? after a few weeks? I had no idea that they could live for so long in such cold unsubmerged. They were in the truck for 4-5 hours in 30 degree weather with not water as they were completly dry when they picked them up!! Please help us decide what to do. It could be several weeks before a seaside trip could take place again. OH well! guess we will chalk this up to better knowledge next time.

I once brought back a cockle from a seaside trip.
It was in a bag of shells the kids collected, i too put in a small tank but no filtration it lived and brought much enjoyment to the kids (you could see it move water via its bivalves) but as soon as i was convinced it was no threat to the main tank disease etc it died:(
Trial and error i suppose.
