Total Freshwater Macros

Looking for a freshwater prawn/shrimp that can reach at least 3 inches in length and can complete its entire breeding cycle in freshwater. Macrobrachium Amazonicum might be a possibility but some articles indicate that it does need brackish water while some articles indicate that it does not…not so clear for this species..

It does appear that the Macrobrachium Nipponense can complete its lifecycle entirely in freshwater but I am not sure where I can find any to experiment with..

Any help appreciated..

I believe both kulsiense and redclaw (unsure of species name) breeds and develops in freshwater, and they're fairly common for macros in the hobby.
 
Macrobrachium eriocheirum(fuzzy claw macro), Macrobrachium sp.(both red claw and rusty macros) and Macrobrachium kulsiense (pearl shrimp) can all be bred in freshwater. The pearl shrimp maxes out at 5cm so it might be a little smaller then you're looking for.
 
Macrobrachium Ohione also looks to be a possibility...but again not sure where to find any to experiment with..

On the species that you have mentioned above, which one reaches the largest size?

Still on the search for the miminmum 3-inch total freshwater prawn. I am now in Ethiopia (which is land-locked) but travel back to the USA frequently as I am originally from there. Macro Nipponense seems to be an attractive species as it can complete its breeding cycle either in brackish or fresh water. However, research indicates that the egg clutch sizes are much smaller in the total freshwater process. Macro Nipponense also can withstand much cooler water temperatures than most other Macros..
