Hey guys!
I have a 36" JBJ Aqua Lighting system running on my reef tank at the moment.
It has the 4 pin 6700k (coralife) lights running on it right now. I'd like to replace my bulbs because I believe these lights are on the decline and rather old.
I'm thinking that I should get the 50/50 lights in order to help stimulate coral growth. What would be the best lights for this scenario?
Pallen! Where have you been?
I don't know much about the fixture you have but how is your tank?

Regarding the 50/50's...It depends on whether you want to see more colour on the corals, as they stand out more with some actinic's...I am currently running 2 x 36w 50/50's, same as what your proposing...they are fine for low lighting corals...

Agree with Niko, the Actinic will make the coral "stand out more", but for the most growth, fastest would be to do 10K or less bulbs(what you already have). You could maybe do a 10K with a 50/50(roughly 12K depending on bulb) You could run the dual bulbs from Sunpaq you can get them in 10K/6700K, straight 10K, 6700K, or straight Actinic. The also have a Dual colored Actinic with 420nm/460nm. I don't know off hand if they come in a straight pin configuration, there are adapters to go back and forth between bulbs, I don't know if they would fit in your fixture but they have them. If you are sticking with Coralife or another brand with out the dual daylight bulbs a 10K with a 50/50 or a 6700K with a 50/50, should give the most growth with still a hint of Actinic to make the colors "pop" a little more, IMO

nice! thanks. I am thinking the 6700/actinic or 10,000/actinic would work great.
haha, I know Im missing in action these days. Since I work at an aquarium speciality store now, I have little time to get online.... plus once I get home, i usually dont think about talking about fish again online. hehe.
my tank is really getting awesome though to answer your question. its pretty wicked now days. i get lots of coral from my job and i get the pick of the crop. I get to quarintine fish at the store before I buy them and i get to take little pieces of corals for free. yeah, its rad.
We of course need photos now.
