this is a picture of a mobile frag experiment. its a scarlet red hermit that carries a small frag of bright green zoanthids. i glued a single polyp on its shell about three months ago. it now has four polyps on its back. the crab and zoa's are doing great. anybody else ever tried this?
Mine aren't glued, but my tuxcedo urchin carries around a bunch of GSP all the time, he's been carrying them for about a yr now. It is kind of funny, he moves them a little when he has to poop. I do get nervous when he is close to any of my SPS with his hat, GSP can have a bad sting to most things, IMO

Cute! I have seen people use shells as frag plugs since it can be cheaper than buying rock rubble. Since there is nothing wrong with the shell itself then it would make sense that hermits would see it as a potential home
P.S. It would be pretty cool to see a hermit with Xenia.
yeah its a sponge crab your thinking of . most pickup a sponge but some will pick up a frag and carry it. they have specially adapted arms just to carry it
nice, thats a pretty sweet idea, and it'll look real cool oncethat little colony starts to grow, i'd love to see him covered in em, now that'd be somethin!!!!!:eek3:
