I am new to fishkeeping and don't have an extra tank. I have a lethargic fish that i took out of my tank and put in a bucket (the one I use to do pwc) with water from my aquarium. I am leaving in a bit to get a heater & filter. Do I NEED to buy an aquarium? I'm sure it's better (easier to see the fish), but funds are tight.

Thanks

You can pretty much use anything that will hold fish-safe water. Buckets, extra fishtanks, rubbermaid tubs all work equally well. the only downside to say a 5gal bucket is that it would he hard to use a HOB filter on the curved side, but a sponge filter would work fine.

You can get a rubbermaid for a few bucks. You can get a used 10 gal for a few bucks, heck a new one is what, 10-12 bucks?

Check out targets or lowes etc for rubbermaids cheap.

Thanks for the responses. I ended up with a tiny 1 gal kit, but the fish died right after setting it up :(
