We've got a new 36g corner that will be ready to start to cycle this weekend. We plan to move some serpae tetras from our current tank into this one at some point, but since they've already (accidentally) been through a fishy cycle, I don't want to stress them out again. Any suggestions on what we could get that would be good with the serpaes after the cycle is established?

Why not do a fishless cycle? It is much easier and will cycle to thank faster. Especially if you seed the tank with some gravel or filter material from your current tank.
But if you are going to do a fish in cycle, I would use Danios. They are very tough fish.

i would just put your new filter on the established tank and let it run for 2 weeks then add it and fish to the new tank.
there's no need to cycle from scratch if you already have an established aquarium.
