ive had this problem before but never brough it up.

today i took out the filter in my 10 gallon tank with 3 plants. they're doing quite well and pearling a little bit. it's only been one day. no fish.

anyways, the water is getting a little cloudy, there absolutely no surface agitation except for the oxygen bubbles raising from the plants to the surface. what could be the cause of this cloudiness. it's pretty much clear, but not crystal clear.

i lent my test kits to a friend and cant test for ammonia, but im sure there's a tiny bit of it. but is ammonia whats causing the cloudiness?

thanks

After one day you can already say that your plants are doing well? Cloudiness is not caused by ammonia, which is invisible. In a raw new tank, some cloudiness can be expected, whether a bloom of bacteria or a bloom of plankton.

But surely you must know these things. For your water haze to be mysterious to you, there must be other factors you aren't mentioning. Like the removal of the filter?...

i say my plants are doing well because they are pearling like crazy. there's a constant stream of micro bubbles about 1 cm away from each other going to the surface of the water. hopefully i'll get a whisper which can help with the clouds.

Sounds like you have plenty of light. Don't stint on the water movement, so that dissolved nutrients are constantly bathing the leaves.

Your cloudiness will dissipate on its own, as soon as the micro-organisms are stable.

oh thanks for the info. but currently i got no water movement. this might be a problem since my water seems to be turning into jello.
