View Full Version : zebras traded, looking for new fish
i have a 55 gal tank that ive had for about 20 years, ive had mostly zebra cichlids, im in prosess of replacing them with somthing easy to care for, that is a colorful shoaling fish, the zebras killed one another till only one left.
i now have two corys that are three years old. im going to look at some fish today when i here back from this message.

Rainbows and tetras are some of the more popular, attractive schoolers. In a 55, you could go with pretty much any of the rainbows--boesmani, turquoise, and Iranian reds are very attractive, active fish. They get to about 4-6 inches, and do well in community tanks.
Of the tetras, I am partial to silver tips, blues, and bleeding hearts, but there are a wide variety that are colorful and social.
Other options--a pair of apistos would fit in well, and can be quite striking. A few more cories would really bring out their social behavior as well.

im leaving for the fish store in a few, i will see what the have.
the rainbows sound neat, its been a long time since ive shopped for fish, about 2 years, anyway... the cichlids i got were 2 inchs long when we bought them, and big blue boy was 5 or 6 inchs long when i traded him in the other day for credit, think i have a photo of him. hes a rogue..

sure at some of the shops i deal with..
like my cichlid, the gave me 15.00 trade, but it is a 3rd of that, so its not much.. but the thing i like is they keep the fish & resell it ,i want to let them live as long as possible..
the fish that i had went though horrible things.. last winter heater quit and i didnt notice for mabe 3 days...temp was 60 degrees, kinda cold, as i keep it at 80..but as it turned out none of the fish died as result... but here in k.c.mo. area you can do it.. as with anything you have to try it..
