I was looking at getting a new heater for my 10 gallon nano reef. I have a stealth in my 55 gallon tank so thats what Im getting for sure. What wattage should I get? 50 watts is rated for up to 15 gallons but should I get the 75 watt for the same price? Here (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3743+12060&pcatid=12060) they are. The only thing is I would like the heater being shorter but if you guys think the bigger heater would be better I'll get that. Thanks.

Well, with either, a stuck-on position means a boiling tank...

I would go with the smaller one.. I ahve the 50 watt one on my 10 and its perfect... a perfect 80 all the time.

I'm using a 50w stealth in mine. On the dot temperature and easy to position.

I've got two stealths and love them. Consistent temp all the time and never a problem. I had my 50w in my 20L for about a year before I converted to my 75g and it was great.

Is the setting dial accurate on your guys' heaters?

It seems that it is very touchy, and that i have mine set at 77 to get a perfect constant 80 degrees.

Well the heaters don't use a real thermostat. Just a bi metal strip and dial that are calibrated at the factory. That is why they are inaccurate and prone to becoming stuck on.

the only suggestion i could make would be to get 2 small ones oppose to 1,

that way of one bugs out it wont fry you homies.

happend to my buddies 40 gal. he had a like 400 watt in there....

needless to say, you never smelled more foul 800sq feet

My tank temp is always 1-1.5 degrees above that in which the dial is set, but there's never any fluctuation in said temp so it doesnt bother me so much. I would have to agree with rsw686's rationale

I use 10 watts per gallon in the winter, and 5 watts per gallon in the summer.
Keep in mind I do keep my house at a lowly 64 degrees during the day and 67 degrees at night during the winter time.

BeelzeBob (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/member.php?u=42523) has it spot on.... I run a team of 4 smaller heaters, if one fails either on or off then you greatly reduce the risk.

Ya thats how i have my tank set-up.. 2 smaller heaters...

But in a 10 gallon it would be an eyesore to have two heaters in there, as real estate is pretty limited already..

i would go with the 50 watt stealth. thats what i have in my gf's 10gal reef, and it is perfect!
