Could I add a GT to a tank with.....

I don't really have any plans to upgrade to a larger tank (second floor apartment) but i do want one more good size fish if possible. is there enough space for all those to coexist? I'm really good with water changes (python) so i don't think that would be an issue.

if that won't work is there anything else I could go with? besides a firemouth or a convict?

I would say no. Maybe you could put a firemouth or a convict with your JD, but a GT is a no no. Since GT's can get up to 12" there would eventually be a death because of territorial issues. it would probably be the GT that got it in the end. Mine is a big wus and only gets aggressive during feeding time.

Is your JD female? If that's a female...then that will grow smaller than the male. Same goes to GT. Female GT gets to 8"...I heard. However, male GT has better color than the female.

If you really want to add another fish in there...try Salvini. That fish gets to 7" or so. If you don't want that, try Blue Dempsey.

my guess is male cause of the color and the elongated fins....but maybe JD's are opposite about that?

I do like salvini's but have never seen one in real life....every LFS around here says they don't get many of them!


i also have a oppurtunity to get some flowerhorns for 2 bucks each...would that fit?

if not I'll prolly go with a firemouth or a con..

blue dempsey are nice....but the only ones i've seen around here sell for 50+

If you put flowerhorn in...you are asking for your JD to become lunch one day. Flowerhorn is very aggressive.

I can't even find Blue Dempsey here at all. I have to order that from Jeff Rapps. And there are other online websites that have salvini. You can check www.liveaquaria.com. or www.fish2u.com

Looks to me like you have a male JD, pointed dorsal and anal fins, and not that much blue green coloring on gill plate. I am going shopping for one today. I hope to get one that looks just like yours :D.

I dont know what your LFS are like but everyone I go to that is not petsmart or petco here will order fish for me. Of course they know I will buy the fish I have them order as well. One of the shops I speak of stocks salvinis.
