I went to wal-mart tonight and saw a little 1 inch cory in a tank with some really big columbian sharks and pictus cats. He was the only cory in there and was obviously being harassed. His tail is almost gone, his one pectoral fin looks okay but the other one is red and appears to be bleeding (or was bleeding) but it doesn't appear that he has any fungus yet. He looks perfectly fine except for the no tail and red/bleeding fin. I told the girl I would take him and try to save him. He was swimming around in the tank, not necessarily scavenging but probably trying to get away or hide from the other fish. Now i've got him my tank and hes just sitting on the bottom, but he was swimming. He seems to breathing somewhat fast but not "rapidly". I put some mela/pimafix in the water as that is all I have right now. I have some ParaGuard by Seachem that I could put in too, the bottle says it can treat fin/tail rot too...would that be a good thing? Tomorrow is water change day so I will do that too. Anything else I should do? I could turn up the temperature a bit if that would help. Thanks.

Hi Erin,
I wouldn't do any meds, chances are his injuries are from aggressive fish he was kept with and not disease. One of the trillis I bought also had his tail bitten off while in the lfs tank. Once in my tank, it grew back within a couple of weeks. The rapid breathing is just from being scared. My baby albinos go a little crazy when I python the tank, they get so paranoid that sometimes they just lay on their side after darting around like crazy for a minute or so with the rapid breathing just from fear!
