the problem with brine shrimp is that they will decompose too quickly. You need something with enough mass to provide an ammonia source over several weeks. You could use plain old flake ood, but you'd have to add a little bit every day. Or, go to the grocery store and buy a bottle of ammonia and dose that every day.

You can't use just any ammonia though. The ammonia should say 100% Pure Ammonia and also say "No Surfactants". Shake the bottle, if any foam builds, it's not what you want.
