I want to start a pico tank and I am torn between these two tanks. I want to be able to do some soft and sps corals, two tank makes will be a small yellow goby(1" or less) OR randalls goby and a small (1" or less) tiger pistol shrimp. Which one is best suited for this job? or are they both the same? One is $37 (top) while the other is $54. Thanks in advance.

Tank One

Tank Two

Tank 2. The lighting is much better than tank one and the filter is also better. The only thing is can you find a heater small enough?

Wall-mart and petco carry heaters for a 1.5-5G tank they work by the ambient room temp. if its too hot it shuts off if its too cold it kicks on.

tank 2, if you're gonna limit yourself that much.

if you got like a 10 gal, you could keep like, a fish and a nice invert.

3gal after live rock and sand will be a milk jug of water volume.

so stock wise its like zoos and a single sexy shrimp

Whats wrong with that? I think you could make an amazing little reef in that space. You dont need fish to have a great marine setup.

no, but 9/10 times your gonna catch someone tryin to stick a fish in there.

SEEEEEE, this bad bad habit of new reefers taking in all the info that goes into a reef tank.

then, based on price alone, the start going down a pico/nano path. and this is bad practice.

smaller tanks are harder to maintain because of stability. even super duper reefer geniuses will attest for the difficulty of maintaining steady levels in a lil tank.

SOOOOOOO with that in mind, yea, a lil system is pretty darn neat.

but, if price is the hurdle your trying to overcome w/ a pico, you may want to find another hobby.

you get what you pay for, with both $$$$$$ and time.

and best case scenario w/ a newb w/ a pico, is $*@&, i want a bigger tank.

No its not. Please think before you post.

I am new to SW and started with a 10 gallon Nano Reef. It hasnt been hard at all to keep constant levels and maintain a happy, healthy enviroment. Dont make the assumption that because one person said keeping a small SW tank is hard that it is. If you do your research before you buy(like you would a car or a house) you will be just fine.

I hardly know anything about SW, but IMO you should get the 2nd tank. The filters and lighting looks better, and the first tank is 3.58g while the second is 3.76. Not much of a differance, but hey, the more water the better ;)

I like the sexy shrimp idea. They're really nice. Maybe have a piece of LR/soft coral that juts up for the sexy shrimp to perch on?

*Runs back to the FW section before the Dark Side mob finds him*

ummm. read before you post?

point i was trying to make is that often times cost is a main rason for selecting a pico.

not that its too darn hard to even consider.

and 3 gallons really limits you, but 10, 20-30 gals...

its just an opinion, deal with it.
