My name is Claudia and I am new to the FW hobby. I have a 29g fw tank moderately planted that has been running for about two months. It has been cycled for about three weeks to a month now. The plants and the fish are doing well, but every time I try too add more Neons they don't make it pass the night. My local fish supplier told me that my water is too hard and that ph is too high, and they recommended I gradually change the water to 50% tap and 50% RO water mixture. I will start doing that today.
The water chemistry is:
Amonia 0 (tested with strips and API master kit, same results)
nitrites 0 (strips and API, same results)
nitrates 5.0 (with API kit)
hardness 300 (strips only)
alkalinity 180 (strips only)
chlorine 0 (strips and API kit)
ph 8.0 with API kit, and 7.8 with strips test
Fish:
2 ghost shrimps
2 otoniclus algae eater
1 neon tetra (had tried adding more but every time I do it they die)
1 ADF
I also had 1 betta fish that died last time I introduced neons to the tank:(
Plants:
1 java moss
2 bunches of anacharies
1 anubia nana
1 moss ball
3 other plants but I don't know their names
